For Sale: Fully Redone 1931 Buick Hearse This one-of-a-kind 1931 Buick Hearse was originally manufactured as a regular four-door car in Detroit.
As hearses were hard to find in the early 1930's, Fisher Canada was asked to modify this beauty by stretching it 40". Doing so forced them to also custom-build new rear doors, side panels and a back door before the finished product could be delivered to its first owner - a funeral home in Eston, Saskatchewan. The new owners used it for the purpose it was intended until the mid-1960's, when it was retired from active service. It then made its way around Saskatchewan until I found it in 2003 and it asked me to take it home. There were only ten of these hearses built and it is next to impossible to find one today - a real collector's dream car. Once I got it home, a labour of love began ... I worked full time to rebuild it. Most people may not know that back then, GM built their cars with wooden frames inside the body. I replaced all the internal wood with steel, including installing a steel roof. Lee also did the glass etching on the rear side windows. The total cost of these two items alone was $12000 Cdn. All upholstery is custom done in two-tone grey. The finished hearse is modified with:
and many more custom features.
There are approx 4000 km on the vehicle as I toured with it after I completed it in the summer of 2007. This rare Buick Hearse was recently appraised at $85000 Cdn. Serious inquiries welcomed. Please contact Bob at (306)353-4828 or via e-mail at 28modela@sasktel.net |
